Jean Joseph Darbouze Foundation, Inc. (JJDF) is providing tuition-free education for 300 children in the city of Arniquet through the Jean-Joseph Darbouze Academy in Haiti. The Academy is working with 10 local Haitian teachers to provide education to children that are healthy, happy, successful members of their communities who will have the tools to positively impact future generations.
Education in Haiti is a privilege – not guaranteed or inexpensive. The reality in Haiti:
Constitutionally education in Haiti is free but in reality it is not. The parents seeking an education for their children– at least those that can afford to pay the required tuition – face the harsh reality of enrolling their children in private schools due to the lack of free public schools. Unfortunately, the vast majority of underprivileged children have no other option but to stay home and without an education if school initiatives, similar to the Jean-Joseph Darbouze Academy, are unavailable.
As it relates to the Jean-Joseph Darbouze Academy, we are presently in need of funds to improve conditions at the school, including adding new classrooms and corresponding furniture, a computer lab, a small library, and new playground equipment.
Jean-Joseph Darbouze Academy is committed to giving its students a well-rounded education. JJDF wants to provide each student with tuition, uniform, books and at least one hot meal daily. In addition to these basic provisions, we strive to support our kids individually by providing tutors to bring those in need of additional support to grade level. For our kids who are clearly gifted, we provide more advanced specialty training that will encourage and enhance their skills. We believe our kids can make a difference in Haiti.
The Jean-Joseph Darbouze Academy is giving children in Haiti the opportunity to receive an education! As we invest in their future, we hope that doors to greater opportunities will be opened to them and that they will grow to be agents of change within the country of Haiti.
