Jean-Joseph Darbouze Foundation supports initiatives to ensure the safety, health, and well-being of local Haitian communities in Ravine Normande. One of the organization’s key strategies is to work with local organizations to provide a viable and stable source of clean water as a long-term solution for the target area.
In the Ravine Normande community, contaminated drinking water poses a serious health threat. According to the CIA World Factbook (2014), there are over 15 illnesses from rabies to Hepatitis A directly linked to contaminated drinking water. Although a spring is available, inhabitants are seen bathing, washing clothes, leading livestock to the water to drink and at the same time collecting water for consumption.
Jean-Joseph Darbouze Foundation seeks to secure the spring, plant additional trees in the periphery of the spring, capture the water and filter it or otherwise make it drinkable. All of these measures will go a long way to ensure prevention of most known waterborne illnesses & population will be connected by roads to critical services, areas, and facilities.
The long-term effect of this project is that the population will be aware of the importance of clean drinking water, which will decrease the number of people affected by waterborne illnesses.
