Education is the key that opens doors to opportunities. The Jean Joseph Darbouze Foundation has amazing news. We are unveiling the Textbook Loaner Program at our Academy. Now, this is exciting news. Over 200 children currently receive free education at the Academy, through the work that our foundation does in Haiti. Many of the children often cannot afford to purchase textbooks annually for school, thus affecting their performance and ability to function well academically.
The Book Bank program is ongoing. It will provide school books to students for all subjects and facilitate professional development and support to their teachers. All textbooks will be retrieved and redistributed to students each school year. The objective is to increase academic achievements, improve the teaching and learning opportunity and overall quality of education. The Book Bank program empowers marginalized children of poverty.
We do not take the start of this project for granted. Imagine in a class of close to 50 children, and every child needing 12 textbooks for the year. Now multiply that by several classrooms needing the same number of supply.
As of today, we have made purchase of 2,070 books for 6 classrooms, grades 1 through 6. We still have to make purchases for 3 kindergarten classes and hope to raise the necessary funds within the next month. We also will be raising funds to build library shelves to display the books.
Thank you to our donors who contributed during last year’s Hurricane fundraising efforts. As a result of your response, we are now able to fund this new program. That natural disaster ravaged through many homes, families and schools in Haiti and we’ve been able to help tremendously with the rebuilding of the communities because of your donations. We will share more posts, pictures and stories regarding progress made on this project.
Thank you again for all that you do to help build empowered families and communities in Haiti. Visit us at https://jjdarbouzefoundation.org/ to learn about our students and other programs.
